Home cooks say they've been 'living a lie' after finding out what oil cap is for

A recent TikTok has claimed the correct way to use oil and manage the cap is actually entirely different to what most of us do - and could save time and spillages while measuring

Home cooks have been left stunned after discovering the correct way to open a bottle of oil..

While most of us are used to removing the small inner ring cap and discarding it - it's fair to say the open bottle can sometimes catch you out with enormous amounts of oil in the pan. However, a recent TikTok has claimed the correct way to use oil and manage the cap is actually entirely different.

The clip posted on the Foodies TikTok channel showed someone opening a bottle of oil with a ring-pull cap. When the cook removed the cap, instead of discarding it, he turns it upside down and places it back in the neck of the bottle, saying it is a handy way to control pouring measurements.

In response to the video, one TikTok user said: "So I have been living a lie my entire life." as another adds: "How didn't I know this until right now?!"

Other home cooks have also been left stunned by 'life-changing' kitchen hacks. One woman, named Mel, recently stumbled across three clever kitchen utensil hacks on the social media platform and the video of her reacting to them is simply priceless.

Posting on the account @melbell007, the woman watches someone from @foodie_we carry out them all in absolute awe. The first trick shows someone using the hole in the middle of a pasta scoop to create perfectly neat meatballs. They simply press the back of the spoon into a bowl of mince meat and the meat goes through the hole to form a ball.

Next the back of a ladle is dipped into a batter mixture, removing excess drips. The ladle with the mixture on it then gets dunked into a pan of hot oil and cooks the batter, creating mini taco shells.

The final hack shows someone using a pair of tongs to cut a slice of cake. They simply use the end where the tongs are joined together to cut through the songe, they then squeeze slightly to pull the piece out and place it on a plate.

Mel watches the hacks with wide eyes, asking: "How did I not know this?!". The cake one really gets to her with her raising her hands to hold the sides of her face, mouth open in shock, as she says: "You're kidding!"
